Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin has tendered her resignation to Finnish President Sauli Niinisto.

The President accepted the application and thanked Marin for her work.

“I accept your resignation request and confess that the government will continue to perform its duties until a new cabinet is appointed,” the Finnish President said.

The coalition's chairman winning the election, Petteri Orpo, will begin consultations on a new government next week.
