Finland to close Russian Consulate General in Turku
On July 19, the President and the Committee of Ministers decided to close the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Turku from October 2023 in response to a similar move by the Russian Federation.
The Finnish government announced this on its website.
Earlier, Russia decided to close the Consulate General of Finland in St. Petersburg.
The mayor of Turku, Minna Arve, said that she would terminate the lease agreement for the property used by the Russian consulate. This concerns a cottage on the island of Kakskerta, which Russian diplomats used for free.
The Finnish government also discussed the situation with the Russian consulate in Marienhamn on the Åland Islands but did not make a decision to close it.
