Finland not to take part in the World Team Gymnastics Championships due to the presence of Russian and Belarusian teams

Finland will not participate in the World Team Gymnastics Championships in November 2023 as teams from Russia and Belarus will participate in the competitions.

This was announced by the Finnish Gymnastics Association on its website.

The association said that their position on the exclusion of Russians and Belarusians from the competition "remains in the minority".

"We have actively influenced the decision-makers of the international federation. In this situation, all we could do was opt out of the competition," says Kaisa Vikkula, Chairman Of The Board of the Finnish Gymnastics Federation.

The IFAGG Council allowed the host country to decide whether to allow Russians and Belarusians to participate.

Qazaqstan, which is hosting this year's championship, has not imposed sanctions on athletes from Russia or Belarus.

It will be recalled that the International Olympic Committee did not invite Russia and Belarus to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games to be held in Paris.
