European Parliament recognises Aliaksandr Lukashenka as an accomplice in Russia's crimes against Ukraine

Members of the European Parliament voted in favour of a resolution recognising Lukashenka as an accomplice in Russia's crimes against Ukraine.

The text of the document is published on the website of the European Parliament.

"The special international tribunal on the crime of aggression perpetrated by Russia against Ukraine must have jurisdiction to investigate not only Putin and the Russian political and military leadership but also the Belarusian leadership," the European Parliament resolution reads.

MEPs reiterated their condemnation of Lukashenka's regime for repressing and oppressing its own people.

The text of the resolution mentions many crimes committed by Belarus: from inciting hatred and spreading Russian propaganda to allowing an attack on Ukraine from the territory of Belarus and supplying supplies of ammunition and weapons.

A separate section of the resolution is dedicated to the illegal deportation of 2,150 Ukrainian children to Belarus.

"supports Ukrainian prosecutors’ investigation into the role of Belarus in the forced deportations and considers that the actions of Lukashenka himself and his regime may also amount to the crime against humanity of ‘deportation or forcible transfer of population’ under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court," the resolution reads.

It will be recalled that MEPs appealed to the court in The Hague to issue an arrest warrant for the self-proclaimed President of Belarus Aliaksandr Lukashenka.
