European Parliament President Roberta Metsola hopes that negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU will be held in December 2023
The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, hopes that negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU will be held before Christmas in December 2023.
She said this in an interview with The Guardian.
Accordingly, the European Union should launch a "major wave of change" to prepare for Ukraine's accession.
The decision is up to EU ministers, who will formally meet in December following a public report in October on Ukraine's progress in reforming its judiciary, curbing corruption, and opening markets.
"I expect a concrete outcome because the worst signal could be that we have given these people targets and deadlines which we can't meet ourselves," Metsola said.
In February of this year, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling on the EU to work on starting negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the bloc.
