European Parliament backs a plan to produce ammunition
On June 1, the European Parliament supported the European Commission's proposal to supply Ukraine with ammunition and missiles urgently.

The Act in Support of Ammunition Production is supposed to accelerate the ammunition and missile delivery to Ukraine and to help member states restock their arsenals. 625 deputies voted. 446 voted in favour, 67 voted against, and 112 abstained.
Negotiations with the European Council will continue to adopt the law at the plenary session scheduled for July.
The production plan concerns:
- increasing European ammunition and missile production;
- accelerating the ammunition delivery to Ukraine ;
- €500 million in funding.
The European Commission's proposals state that this plan includes two parts. The first suggests measures aimed at increasing the production capacity of the EU defence industry. The second contains measures to strengthen the internal market and guarantee reliable supplies.
The European Commission proposes €500 million allocating from the date the law comes into force until June 30, 2025.
«Today's decision marks a significant step forward in safeguarding the security and defence of our Union, and particularly in our steadfast support of Ukraine in the face of the ongoing Russian aggression,» Cristian Bușoi, the European Parliament's negotiating team head, declares.
It will be recalled that on May 5, the Council of the European Union has approved €1 billion in funding to purchase ammunition for Ukraine.
The European Commission allocated €500 million to support ammunition production. This means financing production related to the urgent delivery of ammunition and missiles to Ukraine and helping EU member states replenish their stockpiles.
