European Parliament approves plans to increase production of ammunition and missiles in the EU

MEPs have approved plans to provide Ukraine with more ammunition.

The press service of the European Parliament reported this.

The Act in Support of Ammunition Production (ASAP) was approved to accelerate the supply of ammunition to Ukraine and help EU member states replenish their arsenals.

"By introducing targeted measures, including €500 million in financing, ASAP aims to ramp up the EU's production capacity to address the current shortage of defence products, specifically artillery ammunition, missiles, and their components," the statement said.

The decision was adopted by 505 votes. 56 countries voted against and 21 abstained. The decision must now be approved by the European Council.

"Today's vote marks another step forward for Europe's security and defence, and in our steadfast support of Ukraine in the face of the ongoing Russian aggression," said Cristian Bușoi, head of the European Parliament's negotiating team.
