The EU has imposed sanctions against individuals involved in human rights violations and abuses, particularly sexual and gender-based violence.
The press service of the European Council reported this.
In total, nine individuals and three entities were subject to restrictions. Among them are Russian servicemen — officers of the Moscow Police Station. They systematically participated in acts of sexual and gender-based violence in Ukraine in March-April 2022.
Also among those subject to the restrictions are:
- two acting Taliban ministers for Higher Education and for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice;
- commanders of the South Sudanese militias responsible for the widespread and systematic use of sexual and gender-based violence as a war tactic in the country;
- Deputy Minister of Home Affairs of Myanmar/Burma;
- the Qarchak Prison in Iran, the Syrian Republican Guard, and the Office of the Chief of Military Security in Myanmar/Burma for their role in serious sexual and gender-based human rights violations.
