Environmental damage from Russia's attack on Dnipro HPP already reaches 140 million hryvnias

Kyiv, Ukraine (Svidomi) — The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources estimates the damage caused by the Russian missile attack on the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Station at 140 million hryvnias. This amount is approximate and may increase.

"Environmental damage is not only destruction and water pollution but also explosions and burning, which has a major impact on the ecosystem. This figure may change, but only upwards," Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets said

The attack resulted in a leak of oil products into the Dnipro. The minister said that the State Environmental Inspectorate and the State Water Agency are intensifying monitoring of the water near the station and downstream. The state authorities are also taking all measures to eliminate the consequences of the attack and prevent oil products from reaching water intake points for the population.

The Russians attacked Dnipro HPP with missiles on March 22. Svidomi has already covered the economic and environmental threats of such an attack on the plant.
