Denmark and the Netherlands confirm that the US has authorised the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine
The Danish and Dutch Foreign Ministries say the United States has authorised the transfer of F-16 aircraft to Ukraine in the future.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen announced this in a comment to Danish public broadcaster TV2, while Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra posted on his social media accounts.
Denmark sent a request to the United States for the fighter jets and received a "friendly response."
"I can confirm that there has been an exchange of letters between me and Antony Blinken (US Secretary of State — ed.) ... the Defence Minister and I have approached the US to see what options we have," Rasmussen commented.
Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra wrote on his Twitter account: "We welcome Washington's decision to pave the way for sending F-16 Fighter Jets to Ukraine."
At the same time, no decision has been made on the transfer of the aircraft. According to Hoekstra, this issue will continue to be discussed with European partners.
It will be recalled that Denmark and the Netherlands are leading a coalition to train Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets.
