Deliveries of ammunition promised by the Czech Republic will begin in June

Prague, Czech Republic (Svidomi) — The Czech Republic is likely to start supplying Ukraine with the promised ammunition in June 2024, Czech Prime Minister's National Security Adviser Tomáš Pojar said.

"The promised money has to come, and the contracts must be made. At the point when the contract is concluded, it will take several weeks to get the ammunition to Ukraine. From June onwards, supplies could flow," he said.

Pojar refused to disclose the origin of the ammunition, saying that the initiative was looking for ammunition worldwide "wherever it is available at a reasonable price and of reasonable quality."

The coordinators of the initiative are aware that Russia will try to disrupt the supply of ammunition to Ukraine, so they are trying to keep all the details secret.

In February, the Czech Republic offered to purchase ammunition for Ukraine from third countries in response to the EU's lack of ammunition production capacity. The EU was supposed to produce one million artillery shells by March 2024, but it produced a smaller number due to a lack of capacity.

More than 15 countries have pledged to fund the initiative, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, France and Norway, and non-European allies such as Canada.

Funds for the first batch of shells have already been found. The amount is 300,000 shells.
