Czech Republic allocates money under its initiative to buy ammunition for Ukraine

Prague, Czechia (Svidomi) — On March 27, the Czech government approved additional funds for the purchase of artillery ammunition for Ukraine under a Czech initiative. Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala did not disclose the amount.

"Today, the government approved another contribution from the Czech Republic to support Ukraine. It is about the Czech Republic's involvement in the Czech initiative, which is very successful," said PM Fiala.

In his words, about 20 countries have already joined the ammunition initiative, which Fiala explains by the fact that states are aware this is the only way to deliver the necessary ammunition to Ukraine in a short time, and at the same time understand the threat posed by Russia to Europe.

"It is extremely important for Ukraine to know that additional ammunition will arrive within weeks or months so that it can adapt its tactics accordingly," the Czech prime minister explained.

On March 26, Slovenia joined the initiative, and on March 27, Czech Defence Minister Jana Černohová remotely signed a memorandum of accession Portuguese to the initiative with her Portuguese counterpart, Helena Carreiras.

The purpose of the Czech initiative is to obtain the ammunition Ukraine needs, including 152 mm and 155 mm artillery.

Initially, it was about purchasing 800,000 artillery shells. However, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský said that 1.5 million shells could be supplied in the future, but the number might change.
