Charles Michel calls Russia's proposal to send one million tonnes of grain to African countries "cynical"

President of the European Council has described Russia's "gifts" of one million tonnes of grain to African countries as "cynical".

He said this in his speech at the opening of the G20 summit.

The European Union representative noted that after 30 million tonnes of grain provided by the Black Sea Initiative, Russia's proposal to donate one million tonnes of grain is a "parody of generosity".

"And what cynicism, Mr Russian Representative, you did not accept this (the Black Sea Initiative - ed.) because not only have you decided to pull out of this agreement on the Black Sea, but at the same time you are attacking the port infrastructures," said Charles Michel.

Russia announced the transfer of one million tonnes of grain to African countries at a joint briefing with the President of Turkey.

It will be recalled that Russia has once again stated that it will return to the grain deal only after the lifting of Western restrictions on Russian agricultural exports.
