Canada wants to introduce a review of the effectiveness of sanctions
The House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee wants the government to regularly report to Parliament on whether the sanctions regime is actually working.
O.Canada writes about this.
In particular, this applies to sanctions against Russia. The House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee is concerned that Russians are managing to circumvent the restrictions through shell companies.
The country's government has imposed sanctions on hundreds of people linked to Russia's war effort, as well as officials accused of human rights violations from Haiti to Sri Lanka.
MPs ask not only to periodically update the total amount of frozen funds but also to regularly report on whose assets have been frozen, which shell companies are involved, and whether the targeted companies are evading sanctions.
