Canada expands sanctions list against Russia

Canada has introduced new sanctions against the Russian Federation. The list includes 63 individuals and legal entities.

This is stated on the website of the Canadian government.

The list includes 42 individuals and 21 legal entities. In particular, the sanctions include:

  • educational institutions: the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and the Higher School of Economics;
  • organisations: Russian Geographical Society, Russian Institute for Strategic Studies, Valdai Discussion Club, Yunarmiya, Young Guard of United Russia, and Movement of the First;
  • Vzglyad and Komsomolskaya Pravda newspapers.

In addition, restrictions apply to the rector of the Institute of International Relations Anatoly Torkunov, Minister of Labour and Social Protection Anton Kotyakov, head of Roscooperation Yevgeny Primakov, children’s ombudsman in Yakutia Tuiaara Vasilieva, children’s ombudsman in Tyumen Oblast Andrei Stepanov, children’s ombudsman in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug Lyudmila Nizamova, chief of the Yunarmiya's general staff Nikita Nagorny, and others.

Justin Trudeau noted that among the people subject to the restrictions were those involved in the children’s deportation.
