Bulgarian public broadcaster starts broadcasting news in Ukrainian

The Bulgarian National Television (BNT) public broadcaster has started broadcasting news in Ukrainian due to the increasing number of refugees from Ukraine.

The first news broadcast was published on June 19.

BNT publishes broadcasts on its website and social media. The host of the programme, Maria Plachkova, said that the news episodes are intended for Ukrainians currently living in Bulgaria.

The Embassy of Ukraine in Bulgaria expressed its gratitude to the BNT management for supporting the temporarily displaced citizens of Ukraine.

Since February 2022, more than 1.3 million Ukrainians have entered Bulgaria, and 161.5 thousand have been granted temporary protection.

Almost 14,000 refugees from Ukraine have been accommodated in hotels and recreation centres under the state support system. Bulgaria intends to continue the humanitarian accommodation programme for Ukrainian refugees until the end of 2023.
