Bulgarian President vetoes bill to supply armoured personnel carriers to Ukraine

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has vetoed a bill passed by parliament to supply armoured personnel carriers to Ukraine. The deal was returned for a new discussion in parliament.

Nova media outlet reports.

Earlier, the country's parliament ratified an agreement under which Bulgaria provides armoured vehicles to Ukraine free of charge.

In his reasons for the veto, the president noted that parliamentarians "are not sufficiently familiar with the specific parameters of the donation, which makes it impossible to objectively assess the need for the equipment provided".

Rumen Radev also believes that the parliament did not take into account the wartime tasks assigned to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, nor the needs of the Main Directorates of the Border Police and Fire and Public Safety.

The all-terrain armoured vehicles provided to Ukraine can be used to protect the Bulgarian border and provide assistance to the population in the event of disasters and accidents, including in remote areas, the Bulgarian president said.
