Belgium investigates whether Russian volunteers used their weapons during raids on Russian territory

The Prime Minister of Belgium has announced that the country has launched an investigation into whether Belgian weapons were supplied to the Russian Volunteer Corps and the Freedom of Russia Legion during their raids into Russian territory.

Reuters writes about this citing Alexander De Croo.

This investigation is being carried out by the Belgian Ministry of Defence and intelligence services. Ukraine is asked to provide information about what happened.

"European weapons are delivered to Ukraine under the condition that they are used on Ukrainian territory with the purpose of defending that territory. And we have strict controls in place to see that this is the case," the Prime Minister said.

He also emphasised that they "must not get ahead of [themselves] here." The situation is being analysed and taken "very seriously."

On June 3, The Washington Post published an investigation, which reported that Russian volunteers might be using tactical vehicles provided by the US and Poland, as well as rifles made in Belgium and the Czech Republic.
