An unusual flash in the sky over Kyiv on the evening of April 19

At around 10:00 p.m., residents of different parts of the capital saw a bright green-blue flash in the sky.

After that, an air alert was declared in Kyiv and the Kyiv region.

The Kyiv City Military Administration reported that, according to preliminary information, the flash over Kyiv was the result of a NASA space satellite falling to Earth.

To avoid the consequences of the debris falling to the ground, an air alert was triggered in the region. The air defence system was not working at the time.

The Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that the outbreaks were caused by a satellite or meteorite.

In a commentary to the BBC, NASA Communications Directorate spokesman Rob Margetta denied suggestions that the flashes over Kyiv were related to the fall of their satellite.

NASA reported that the satellite was still in orbit at the time.

NASA and the US Department of Defence continue to monitor the RHESSI satellite.
