An unknown country purchases Leopard 1 tanks from Belgium for Ukraine

A Belgian media outlet reports that an unnamed country has bought Leopard 1 tanks from Belgium and has already shipped them to Ukraine.

This was reported by Business AM.

On August 7, they were sent to Ukraine via Germany and Italy. Before that, the tanks will undergo a major overhaul.

These tanks were previously in service with the Belgian army. A few years ago, they were completely decommissioned, as the army leadership decided to withdraw all heavy-tracked vehicles from service and replace them with lighter armoured vehicles on tyres.

However, tanks have not been included in the list of equipment supplied by Belgium to Ukraine. According to Defence Minister Ludivine Dedonder, they were too expensive to put into service.

They were stored in a warehouse at OIP Land Systems in Tournai, which refurbished and sold them.
