A fire has broken out on the temporarily occupied Dzharylhach Island, burning for the fifth day in a row.
This was reported by the Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group.
The fires broke out in the absolute nature reserve zone, officially protected since 1974.
The zone is home to the largest number of ungulates living on Dzharylhach.
In May 2023, the Russian military built a sand mound to connect the island to the land. After that, the military created a training ground on the island.
"The fire, which no one is even trying to extinguish, will bring enormous losses to the island's biodiversity," the organisation adds.
