17 Americans missing or held hostage in Gaza Strip

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre says 17 American citizens remain unaccounted for, possibly because they are being held hostage in Gaza. 22 Americans have been killed

The Times of Israel reports

The Hamas Ministry of Health reports that about 1,100 Palestinians have been killed and more than 5,000 wounded. In Israel, Hamas attacks have already killed 1,200 people. 

The Israeli Defence Forces conducted massive strikes in the Gaza Strip, destroying the Islamic University, which the IDF called "an important centre for the development and production of weapons". 

The Israeli army killed a founding member of Hamas, Sheikh Abd al-Fattah Dukhan (Abu Osama), in the Gaza Strip. The militants confirmed his death. 

Lebanon's National News Agency reports that Israeli forces shelled villages in southern Lebanon, injuring three civilians and damaging about 10 houses.

Gaza's only power plant has been shut down due to a lack of fuel.

French Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne says that Hamas militants have probably kidnapped "several children" of French citizens. 

The WSJ reports that Israel has formed a national unity government. 

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that the upcoming elections to local city and regional councils will be postponed for at least three months due to the war. The last time elections were postponed was during the 1973 war.
