Serhii Zhadan received the Hannah Arendt Prize for “Political Thought”
The jury praised Zhadan as a great storyteller who continues and revolutionizes the tradition of Central European literature and also noted that "the views Serhiy Zhadan offers his readers on Ukrainian society and the way he talks about surviving the war (2014) are unique in the latest European social literature."
The Hannah Arendt Prize is awarded jointly by the Senate in Bremen and the Heinrich Böll Foundation. It is endowed with 10,000 euros.
This prize is awarded to people who "threw a risk of publicity" through a bold intervention.
