US provides new $300 million military aid package to Ukraine
On May 31, the United States announced a new military aid package for Ukraine. It will include Stinger air defence systems, Avenger air defence systems, and HIMARS ammunition.
The US Department of Defense reports this.
With the new aid package, the United States provides Ukraine with an additional supply of ammunition for Patriot air defence systems, Avenger air defence systems, Stinger man-portable air defence systems, HIMARS ammunition, and artillery systems. The weapons will be provided from the US Department of Defence's stockpile.
The package also contains:
- 155 mm and 105 mm artillery shells;
- 105 mm tank ammunition;
- precision-guided aircraft munitions;
- Zuni aircraft missiles;
- ammunition for drones;
- AT-4 anti-tank systems;
- over 30 million rounds of ammunition for firearms;
- demining equipment and systems;
- explosive ammunition for removing obstacles.
Ukraine will also receive AIM-7 radar homing anti-aircraft missiles for the first time.
«The United States continues to support Ukraine by providing what it needs to defend itself better, and as part of that effort, we have an upcoming package that includes the 39th transfer of equipment from the Department of Defence's defence stockpile,» White House National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby says.
The United States will purchase Gepard air defence systems for Ukraine. The US Department of Defence announces a $118 million contract with the US company Global Military Products.
It will be recalled that on May 25, The US State Department approved selling the NASAMS system and equipment to Ukraine worth about $285 million.
On May 21, The US announced a $375 million military aid package for Ukraine. It was announced after Joe Biden met with Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan.
On May 9, the United States announced a new $1.2 billion military aid package for Ukraine. The new security assistance package will help to strengthen air defence and meet the artillery ammunition needs of the Ukrainian army.
