Ukraine's Foreign Minister denies information that China's special envoy calls for Russia to retain control over temporarily occupied territories

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has denied the Wall Street Journal's report that Chinese Special Representative Li Hui is promoting a truce among European diplomats in which Russia would retain control over the temporarily occupied territories.

On May 26, the Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed European diplomats with whom Li met in Warsaw, Berlin, Paris, and Brussels, reported that Li urged them to act independently of the United States and demand an immediate truce from Ukraine, under which Russia would retain control of the temporarily occupied territories.

"I immediately contacted my colleagues in the capitals he (Li Hui - ed.) visited, and none of them confirmed that there were any talks or negotiations even about recognising the temporarily occupied territories as being Russia's," declares the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Dmytro Kuleba urged "to keep a cool mind and common sense and not to react emotionally to every publication."

"We control the process. No one will do anything against us behind Ukraine's back because we have built trusting relationships with all our key partners," the Minister says. 

Kuleba says Ukraine is conducting a dialogue with China in compliance with three basic principles:

1. Exclusive mutual respect for territorial integrity. 

2. Ukraine will not consider any initiatives that provide for any legal or actual territorial concessions of Ukraine.

3. Inadmissibility of freezing the conflict. "Ukraine shall achieve victory. This is the firm position of the President and mine," Kuleba reports.
