Slovak Prime Minister demands guarantees that EU aid to Ukraine will not be stolen
Newly elected Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has demanded guarantees that EU aid to Ukraine will not be stolen.
He made this statement at the EU leaders' summit in Brussels, Reuters reports.
"Ukraine is among the most corrupt countries in the world, and we are conditioning what is excessive financial support on guarantees that European money (including Slovak) will not be embezzled," Fico said.
He also added that part of any EU support for Ukraine should be directed to the renewal of infrastructure along the Slovak-Ukrainian border and to support Slovak companies in the restoration of Ukraine.
It will be recalled that the day before, Robert Fico said that he would not support the provision of military aid to Ukraine.
