During the retreat of the Russian army, the losses of vehicles were probably in the tens, not hundreds, and the Russians also destroyed a significant part of their equipment that remained in the western part of the Kherson region so that it would not be used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

This may indicate a more effective unified operational command under General Sergei Surovikin.

However, the Russian forces remain fragmented due to poor junior and middle leadership, as well as a "culture of cover". For example, in recent months, two companies subordinated to the Eastern Military District have fled after their commander was assassinated. Other officers allegedly tried to cover up the incident.
