Russia arrests Wall Street Journal reporter for espionage — the Federal Security Service (FSB)

Evan Gershkovich is a correspondent for the Moscow bureau of The Wall Street Journal. The journalist was detained in Yekaterinburg.

The Russian security agency reports that Gershkovich is suspected of allegedly "spying for the US government".

The journalist was allegedly detained "while trying to obtain classified information". He reportedly collected secret materials about the activities of an enterprise of the Russian military-industrial complex "on behalf of the United States".

The latest article, co-authored by Gershkovich, was published on March 28. It is about the weakening of the Russian economy under the influence of a full-scale war and sanctions.

The publication has not yet commented on the journalist's detention.
