Poland approves deal with the US to buy nearly 500 HIMARS

Poland's Defence Minister has approved an agreement with the United States to purchase 486 HIMARS launchers.

The announcement was made by Mariusz Błaszczak on his Twitter page.

The contract provides for the supply of long-range launchers, logistics and training facilities, as well as a package of missiles with a range of up to 70 kilometres and capable of hitting enemy targets at a distance of up to 300 kilometres. The agreement will also include technology transfer.

Deliveries will begin in late 2025.

Currently, the task of the Polish side is to adapt the systems and integrate the launchers with Polish systems. This will take two years.

The Polish Ministry of Defence will purchase the systems under the Homar programme. This is a purchase of missile weapons that will allow for the future assembly of 27 missile squadrons.

"The opposition says that [almost] 500 launchers are too many. No, this is not too much; it is exactly the number of HIMARS launchers that the Polish Army needs to really deter the aggressor," Błaszczak commented on the deal.
