NAPC adds Mondelez International to list of international war sponsors
The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption has added Mondelez International, an American multinational confectionery, food and beverage company, to the list of international sponsors of war - the NAPC.
Mondelez International, in particular, owns the brands Kraft, Oreo, Philadelphia, Jacobs, Milka, LU, and Halls. The company has an annual revenue of about $26 billion and operates in 160 countries.
In 2022, the company paid more than $61 million in taxes to the Russian budget. The annual profit of Mondelez's Russian subsidiary was $339 million (+303% year-on-year), and revenue was over $1 billion (+38% year-on-year).
"These are dry financial statistics, measured in the lives of Ukrainian children who will never taste Barney Bear again," the NAPC wrote.
In Russia, Mondelez International's interests are represented by Mon'dalis Rus LLC, which has three factories: the Bolshevik factory, the Pokrov production facility, and the Veliky Novgorod plant.
After the start of the full-scale invasion, Mondelez announced the suspension of new investments and advertising in Russia. However, the NAPC notes that, judging by financial indicators, the Russian market remains promising for the company.
"Mondelez publicly advertises its charitable assistance to children affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. However, at the same time, it is slyly expanding its activities in the aggressor country and continues to pay significant funds to its state budget. The money is spent, among other things, on missiles that kill Ukrainian children," the Agency concludes.
