BILD journalists have gained access to a secret document, according to which Germany will block Ukraine's rapid accession to the Alliance.

BILD reported this.

Germany will not accept "neither the mention of an invitation" nor the mention of "Ukraine's rightful place in NATO" in the final NATO document.

The United States is also blocking Ukraine's rapid accession to NATO. The Financial Times wrote about it.

"The US is still blocking [Ukraine’s membership], and blocking for not wholly unfair if still blinkered reasons," said Ben Tallis, a senior research fellow at the German Council on Foreign Relations.

Tallis also notes "too much hesitation in Berlin", calling it "historical forgetfulness" on the part of Germany, given that they relied on NATO to protect themselves after World War II.
