German Bundeswehr officer arrested for alleged Russian espionage

German criminal police have arrested a Bundeswehr officer on suspicion of working for Russian special services.

This was reported by the Federal Prosecutor's Office of Germany.

The man was an employee of the Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Utilization for the Bundeswehr.

He once passed information to Russian intelligence.

On August 9, the suspect was brought before an investigating judge of the Federal Court, who issued an arrest warrant and ordered his detention.

Since May 2023, on his own initiative, he has repeatedly contacted the Russian Consulate General in Bonn and the Russian Embassy in Berlin and offered cooperation.
