French President postpones trip to Ukraine scheduled for February 13-14 for "security reasons"
Paris, France (Svidomi) — French President Emmanuel Macron has postponed his visit to Ukraine, scheduled for February 13-14, the business magazine Challenges reports.
According to journalists, Macron was supposed to go to Odesa and then to Kyiv. The French president was supposed to announce the creation of a €200 million fund to be donated to civilian projects.
The decision to cancel the visit has raised questions among French civil servants and leaders, as well as Ukrainian diplomats.
The French-Ukrainian business council Medef International, which had planned a mission to Kyiv on the same dates, also cancelled the trip.
In January 2024, Le Figaro reported that Macron would arrive in February for an official visit to Ukraine and announce a new military aid package.
Then, it was reported that France was "in the process of finalising a security agreement" similar to the one concluded by Ukraine and the UK.
According to the French president, France and the European Union "will have to take new decisions in the coming weeks and months to prevent Russia from winning".
On February 10, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the situation on the frontline and Ukraine's defence needs with Emmanuel Macron.
