Former Ukrainian Security Service General Naumov released from Serbian prison
Former Ukrainian Security Service General Andrii Naumov has been released from a Serbian prison. Earlier, the court sentenced him to a year in jail for money laundering.
The BBC reported this.
"He is not yet allowed to leave the country or his place of residence until the appeal process is completed," the court told the BBC Serbian Service.
Naumov's lawyer, Oleksandr Ovchynnykov, believes the ban on leaving Serbia is unnecessary, so the court's decision was appealed.
In September 2023, a court in Serbia sentenced former SBU General Naumov to a year in prison for money laundering. At the time, Andrii Naumov had almost served his one-year sentence.
It will be recalled that Naumov was arrested on June 7, 2022, when he was trying to get from Serbia to North Macedonia.
During the inspection of his car, Serbian police found money and diamonds that "probably originated from criminal activity".
The State Bureau of Investigation served Naumov with two suspicions — of abuse of office and fraud and causing damage to the state over UAH 3.2 million. Serbia refused to extradite the former official to Ukraine.
Andrii Naumov is the subject of several journalistic investigations into smuggled imports and corruption schemes at customs. Skhemy also reported that he travelled abroad on February 23, 2022, the day before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
