Former Russian paratrooper Pavel Filatiev granted political asylum in France

France has granted political asylum to a Russian paratrooper who took part in Russia's war against Ukraine.

Pavel Filatiev said this in a commentary to the Russian media outlet Agenstvo.

After his injury in the spring of 2022, he managed to leave the Russian army. Later, Filatiev wrote the book ZOV 56, the rights to which he transferred to Vladimir Osechkin, the founder of the Gulagu.net project.

In March 2023, Osechkin, who helped the paratrooper to leave for France, accused Filatiev of involvement in the killings and illegal detentions of Ukrainians. He claimed that the paratrooper had concealed information about his involvement in war crimes and, therefore, could not apply for political asylum.
