Bad weather continues to rage in Italy
July weather continues to be characterised by extreme climatic phenomena in Italy.
This is reported by the Italian edition of RaiNews.
While the southern regions are suffering from extreme heat, the northeast and north of the country are scourged by monsoon rains, frequent thunderstorms, hail and wind gusts.
Thus, on July 21, an "orange alert" was declared in most of the Lombardy region, and a "yellow alert" in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Veneto, the autonomous province of Bolzano, partly in Emilia-Romagna and the rest of Lombardy.
Italian media also report bad weather in cities such as Treviso, Padua, Belluno and Venice. In the Cortina d'Ampezzo area, wind speeds exceeded 140 km/h. Intense hail and heavy rains broke trees and roofs.
On July 22, a "red alert" was declared in many cities.
In the cities of Ancona, Florence, Frosinone, Naples, Palermo, Rome, Viterbo and others, the air temperature has been at 40 degrees for several days.
According to the newspaper, citing the Italian Civil Defence, "the contrast between the flow of humid and unstable Atlantic currents and the warm air mass in the south will continue to determine the increase in thunderstorm activity in the northern part of the country".
The "red level of danger" warns of possible negative health consequences for healthy and active people, not just for risk groups such as the elderly, children, and the sick.
