The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine is removing the "For Official Use Only" category from archival documents relating to mass deportations of people from western Ukraine in the 1940s and 1950s — the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine

The archives contain, in particular, echelon lists of citizens of the Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil and Lviv regions deported by the communist totalitarian regime.

The Law of Ukraine, "On Access to the Archives of Repressive Bodies of the Communist Totalitarian Regime of 1917-1991", obliges to provide and publish archival information about repressive bodies and prohibits classifying archival information of repressive bodies as official information.

"The documents of repressive bodies should be available to the public, including by posting them on official websites," said Ivan Sopiha, director of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Department of Document Management and Control.

The sectoral state archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will continue to review archival files to identify such information and bring it to the public's attention.
